David Fletcher – Dalby Race Report

David Fletcher Race Report – Sunday 11th June.

Update for Sundays 4th round of the British XC series at Dalby Forest on the coast of Yorkshire.  A course I’ve had a lot of luck and good results from I went in confident and hoped for a solid result. With form progressing nicely I went off the start quickly. I was soon on the front and driving a hard pace.

The pace soon picked out the stronger riders and a nice group of 4 were off the front.

The laps went by and we were joined by 2 more riders. Coming into the 4th lap I was hit by an untimely mechanical, losing valuable seconds on the other leading riders I set to bring them back. Working hard I clawed my wayback. By this point 2 riders had broke away and gained time quickly. Being at the back and some tight sections looming I was unable to make it upto the lead.
A silly overtaking move from a rider in the group for 3rd pushed me off the bike and off course.

I chewed away at the time but it just wasnt enough. Catching one rider I settled for 4th.

A pleasing result and knowing it wasnt a clean run race I can take alot of positives. Showing good form I know good results are only round the corner.

With the nationals being a flat / rolling course it should set me well on the hunt for that best of British jersey.

David Fletcher – Race Report

Update for the 3rd round of the British XC Series at Richmond, Yorkshire.

Words by David Fletcher

I got off to a flying start. Leading out 90% of the first lap and instantly getting a nice gap with 6 others. From there I continued to press on and work hard on the front to try and break the group. Gaps were forming but closing once other riders had short turns on the front.

Feeling good I continued to work and confident of my form. I came into the 5th lap and unfortunately lost contact with some of the bunch. Suffering from my early efforts I continued to ride to a controlled pace. The last lap came and was positioned in 7th. From here the gap behind was too big to loose a place and the gap in front didn’t seem bridgeable. Finishing it wasn’t my greatest of days. With a very hilly course it wasn’t to my strengths. Climbing really well for the first 4laps and suffering over the last 2.

I know where I faulted, riding to hard at the front and bad positioning choices when the group eventually split from other riders attacking.

Bike and kit performed beautifully as always. Never skipped a beat and always ready to go faster.

Up next I have the Dalby round of the National Series and possibly a local league event to add a day of racing.

With thanks to Sherwood Pines Cycles, Moore Large, Forme Bikes and Vittoria Tyres.

Race Reports

Race reports

Last Sunday was the first round of the Midland XC Series.

Most of the shop team out with some new faces Dave and Aaron had good first outing shaking of some winter cobwebs. Gary Kondor manage to hit a tree and only found out after the race he’d broke his shoulder but still finished well. Jonny and Craig had good results in their classes, Simon got a great result in the Vets nearly cracking a top 10 in a mega competitive class. Carl racing in his first vets race after stepping up from fun class last year went of like a rocket. Joe Bale had a good result in his first outing for the shop.

Our second team lead by David Fletcher took the win in the elites by just over 2 mins in what was a good day at the office. The second team member Chris Hilbert got a great result in his class racing against much older lads both these riders will be joined by Marc Gee a little later in the season and all will be riding Forme Winscars 29C’s with full Shimano group sets and American classic wheels.

Sunday  was the first round of the Nutcracker Series at Dalby where Chris Hilbert got his first podium of the season in the under 14’s on his Forme Winscar.

A cracking 2nd place again against older lads.
